Good open source tools for unit testing ?
« on: April 17, 2016, 20:13:11 pm »
My friend and I are almost finished with our Java project that consists of a server side and some client applications on the same network, that will communicate with the server only via requests for data.

Which open source tools would be good to use for the sort of tests we should write ?

I would suggest Selenium if it's for functional testing. Else you may also use CasperJs/PhantomJs. I assume that you also used AngularJS to build the app. If that's the case then Protractor Js is the best choice.

* For functional testing: JUnit or TestNG are your best choices.
* For performance: Apache's Jmeter
* For UI testing: Selenium is the most popular choice
* For testing SOAP webservices, SoapUI is a good choice.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yes I think we will be using selenium for the functional testing.

Protractor also looks like a nice framework to use for the client app
